One day when Laurette Met Norma Jean at 20th
Century Fox acting class she noticed that Norma was very depressed. When Laurette asked
"Why are you so sad Norma Jean?" Norma replied "I wanted to take the
professional name of Jean Nelson but they wouldn't let me because they already have a
young man that they are grooming for stardom by the
name of Gene Nelson." at which point Laurette said that she had a theory regarding
professional names, and that theory involved finding a name that had already been famous
and putting it with another which would distract from the original persona of the famous
person of the past. For instance, take a list of the Presidents of the United States. Now
what can you think of that would be more famous than the Monroe Doctrine. There had been a very successful music star of the Broadway stage in the
generation before Laurette and Marilyn. This star was known as Marilyn Miller. She was a
very beautiful blond actress. Laurette suggested Marilyn because she liked Marilyn Miller.
At this point Norma Jean said,"Oh I love it, yes that's who I am I'm Marilyn
Monroe."
Sometime after Laurette found a beautiful name for Norma
Jean. Marilyn confided to Laurette that she was in a quandary because photographers were
always demanding of her "Look Sexy" for the camera and asked Laurette how do you
look sexy? Laurette explained to her that only thru the rules of physical attributes of
the body and face that she had acquired thru the study of acting that she could create the
image of how to create a sexy image. Since age 12 Laurette had been the protegee of Marie
Stoddard who was the best acting coach in Hollywood at the time. Speaking of professional
names incidentally, Marie had been born Mary Anna Pinkerton which unquestionably could not
be associated with the acting profession being that she was the daughter of the famous
founder of the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Marie had appeared on Broadway with such actors
as John Gielgud and John Barrymore. It was only through this training that Laurette was
able to teach Marilyn how to look sexy and also to dress the part. For instance, if you
are wearing a low cut cocktail dress in the afternoon just tell them that you are on your
way to the a cocktail party and don't have time to change. And don't
forget to wear you high ankle strap shoes." Actually Laurette Luez was the
mentor for Marilyn Monroe on the art of how to look sexy!
This picture of Laurette at age 15
from the 1944 Esquire Magazine that became a pin up during WW2 shows the same red velvet
background that years later Hollywood photographer Tom Kelly hoped that Laurette would
repeat with the same pose in the nude. Failing this, Tom went ahead with another model and
this model happened to be Laurette's creation Marilyn Monroe. What's even more ironic
after Marilyn divorced Joe Dimaggio, she wound up Marrying the famous playwright Arthur
Miller. Thereby becoming Marilyn Miller which was the name of Laurette's favorite Broadway
star that Marilyn was named after.
As told to LegendaryWomen.com of Hollywood, California
this night June 15,1999, by Laurette Leuz.
Some Points and Facts
Just as in 1949 when Laurette was able to throw a fit upon request for LIFE
magazine, She managed to get the most famous, controversial exploitation film
of the 1950s, Prehistoric Women, banned in Boston. She had the ability to
turn on droves of theater go-ERs by her knowledge of vocal and physical
expression as shown in the attached physical expression in her hit stageplay
as Tondeleyo in White Cargo '54 as a half-breed.
Incidentally, The UA release of 1950 Prehistoric Women as Tigri was a huge
financial success for United Artist Film Corporation, saving it from
Bankruptcy. The film was a worldwide success because it could be easily
understood in any language. The movie did not have any of the nudity,
kissing, clinches or bedroom scenes of today. Laurette's training in the art
of acting was her only weapon for the enactment of Tigri.
This late 40's pic of Marilyn show an angelic sexless little creature
before Laurette trained her how to achieve the impossible. It shows why she
was in a quandary over the demands of photographers when they shouted at her
to look sexy and thereby demanding of Laurette the answer to the question,
"But How do you look Sexy? This precipitated the astounding transformation
in the image that was created for Marilyn by Laurette.

Take a today's look at Laurette's beautiful daughter Claudette, named after
one of her favorite actresses of the 30's.

Where does a woman this beautiful come from?. Her second husband described Laurette well .
He said that only once in a Century a woman as beautiful as you appears on
the earth.
Laurette and her parents came to Hollywood from Honolulu, Hawaii.
You cannot track the last name Luez because it does not exist. Laurette made
it up. Her real last name is Luis. She had a relative named Luis who was
the President of Brazil during the mid 30's.
Laurette took the last name Luez while walking along Hollywood Blvd. She saw a
Movie Theater where the movie "Suez" was playing with Tyrone Power. She knew
when she was a little girl that she was going to be a star. She figured
that the world could pronounce her last name Luis correctly if she changed it
to Luez.

Hollywood told her to scrap Luez and take Jennifer Jones. She had too much pride
and Luez stuck.
Another thing about Laurette was that she was gifted with psychic abilities
that she inherited from her Mother. When Laurette's Mother was carrying
Laurette in India. She stopped for a prediction from a Swami. The Swami
told her mother that when your child is born she will be known the world over
and when your child is a very old age she will be known the world over
again.
We think Laurette's mission was to live long enough to see her Swami's second
prediction come true. She thought the internet might have been it. She was
very happy and passed away unexpectedly after she saw herself on the net.
